Toronto, January 29, 2026 — Arche Capital served as a co host and supporting sponsor of the 2026 Canada–China Relations Outlook Forum, held in Toronto and jointly organized by Senator Victor Oh, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada, and the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto. The event, sponsored by ICBC Canada as the title partner, brought together more than 200 representatives from government, business, academia, and community organizations across the Greater Toronto Area.
The forum took place at a moment when Canada–China relations are showing signs of stabilization and renewed engagement after several years of volatility. Participants noted that the constructive atmosphere reflected a shared interest in rebuilding dialogue and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Senator Victor Oh Calls for Diversified Trade and EV Collaboration

In his opening remarks, Senator Victor Oh emphasized the importance of strengthening Canada–China economic ties. He noted that Canada’s export structure remains heavily concentrated, with more than 75 percent of exports directed to a single market, creating long term vulnerabilities. He expressed support for Canada’s trade diversification strategy and underscored the need for federal and provincial coordination in developing advanced manufacturing and other strategic industries.
Senator Oh highlighted clean energy and electric vehicles as high potential areas for bilateral cooperation. Drawing on his 2025 visit to China and his tour of BYD manufacturing facilities, he encouraged Chinese EV companies to consider establishing production operations in Ontario. Such investments, he noted, could create jobs, leverage local industrial strengths, and position Canada as a re export hub for global EV markets.
Ambassador Wang Di: Bilateral Relations Entering a Phase of Renewed Progress

In his keynote address, Ambassador Wang Di stated that Canada–China relations are entering an important moment of comprehensive recovery following the Canadian Prime Minister’s recent visit to China and the consensus reached between the two countries’ leaders.
Ambassador Wang emphasized the enduring complementarity between the two economies in trade, energy, agriculture, education, and culture. He pointed to the reactivation of internal drivers for cooperation and the potential for bilateral engagement to contribute positively to global stability and development.
He expressed China’s willingness to work with Canada to implement high level strategic understandings and to advance a relationship based on mutual respect, mutual benefit, and practical cooperation. As communication channels reopen and joint initiatives progress, he noted that more positive developments and tangible outcomes can be expected across multiple sectors.
Municipal Leaders Highlight Local Level Cooperation
Mayors from three major GTA municipalities, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Richmond Hill Mayor David West, and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, addressed the forum and underscored the importance of local engagement in strengthening bilateral ties.
The mayors emphasized the significant contributions of Chinese communities and businesses to local economies, the stabilizing role of municipal level cooperation in broader bilateral relations, and opportunities for collaboration in technology, education, green energy, and two-way investment.

Mayor Scarpitti announced plans to lead a delegation to China later this year to advance municipal partnerships and economic exchanges.
Community and Business Leaders See Emerging Opportunities
Representatives from community organizations, business associations, financial institutions, technology firms, and universities expressed optimism about the improving trajectory of Canada–China relations. Many noted that 2026 could mark a turning point toward renewed cooperation in trade, talent mobility, and educational exchange. Several participants described the coming decade as a potential new golden period for bilateral engagement.
